Our club is involved in a variety of projects that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide. These are just some of the projects we are involved with to make a difference in the lives of children and our community.
Adopted School: Over the course of the last few years, we have found tremendous need at Delray Beach’s Title I Schools. To that end, we have adopted Orchard View Elementary to provide them with needed items and manpower for their teachers and Children’s programs.
Reading Oasis: In just one year, more than 1.3 million students in America dropped out of school. It was also discovered that one in six third-graders who are not reading proficiently do not graduate from high school on time. The Reading Oasis is a program where we partner with Scholastic Books to provide an Oasis of reading and learning for children in low-income schools. We provide at-risk students with access to books and a safe environment to read with their families.
In 2016, we completed the building of a Reading Oasis at Orchard View Elementary in Delray Beach. See photos of the Reading Oasis in our photo album.
Key clubs: Our club sponsors two key clubs at our local high schools. As an extension of Kiwanis, these clubs provide a way for kids to earn community service credits, teach leadership skills, and support various charitable causes.
Terrific Kids:A reward program for Kids who are given goals to achieve at Orchard View Elementary.
AVDA: We provide financial support and food every month for AVDA: “Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse”.
Scholarships: Every year, we provide college scholarships to deserving graduating seniors at American Heritage School, Atlantic Community High School, and the Atlantic High Police Academy.
Thanksgiving Turkey Deliveries: Every year, we help deliver turkey dinners with all the trimmings to needy families in Delray Beach on Thanksgiving Day.
Delray Beach Community Garden: This is a project to teach and inspire children in our area about gardening and growing their food.
Police Appreciation Breakfasts: We hold a special meeting twice a year to honor and recognize the officers and employees of the Delray Beach Police Department.
Contributions: We also support many other charitable organizations such as Kiwanis International’s Major Emphasis “The Eliminate Program” to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus in the world, The Florida & International Kiwanis Foundations, the Horses for the Handicapped, Ronald McDonald House, Forgotten Soldiers, the American Cancer Society, Gold Coast Down Syndrome Association, the Miracle League, Make a Wish Foundation, the Delray Beach Annual Easter Egg Hunt, The Delray Beach Little League, Aktion Club for people with disabilities, The EJS Project, Achievement Centers for Children & Families, and many others.
The Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach is ready to respond to any need within Kiwanis’ guidelines, whether a one-time thing or an ongoing need. If you would like the Delray Beach Kiwanis Club to consider donating to your non-profit or event, please complete theMini-Grant Applicationand send it back to us.
Thank you.
While most of Delray Beach was still sleeping this morning, members of The Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach were already reporting for duty at 5:00 AM at our adopted precinct at Veterans Park!
Today, our club is once again participating in Palm Beach County’s Adopt-A-Precinct program. Throughout the day, Kiwanis members are serving as clerks and inspectors—checking in voters, providing directions, and helping keep things running smoothly from before the polls open until after they close.
And there's an added bonus: our work today also serves as a fundraiser for The Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach, with funds earned through the program helping us continue serving children and our community throughout the year. 💙
We love seeing our members get involved, give their time, and take an active role in our community.
Here’s our smiling morning crew—looking remarkably cheerful for people who started their day at 5 AM! 😄☀️
